Summer’s here and as the sunshine heats things up, we all long for a little less product on our skin. At the same time, our, ok MY, vanity insists that I still look attractive and feel confident when I hit the beach or pool. James Vincent, Lead Artist for The Powder Group says that “Make up should be kept to a minimum at the beach”¦the best beach face is a makeup free face. Sun protection and skin care are crucial for beach goers but makeup can be left in the makeup bag.”

Now, while I trust James’ opinion, I’m not quite convinced that I can leave any and all makeup in the makeup bag. Instead, I plan to try limiting myself to just a few simple products this summer:

Tinted Moisturizer is an essential first step. Lighter than foundation, but still offering a bit of coverage, most formulas also offer a nice boost of SPF. Try LORAC’s new ProtecTINTâ„¢ SPF 30 Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer, a lightweight and sheer tinted formula that works for all skin types – especially sensitive, imparting a natural, healthy glow. If you need more substantial coverage, we like N.V. Perricone’s Active Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15. It’s pricey at $65 per tube but a good alternative for yellow based skintones and for women who desire a bit more coverage than LORAC offers.

For just a hint of lip color, Bobbi Brown’s new Tinted Lip Balm is a unique stick balm that comforts and moisturizes lips while providing a sheer tint of color. We also love MAC’s new, limited edition Tendertones. These nifty little pot glosses are sheer and look “˜natural but better’ on your lips, despite some of the wild colors in the jar. Your pucker will stay hydrated and protected from the harmful rays of the sun thanks to SPF 12.

tarte’s new lights, camera, splashes! is a mascara after my own heart. Whimsically packaged in denim with a gold anchor ““ so summery ““ this waterproof formula gives dramatic length and doesn’t budge as you hop in and out of the waves.

For those glamour pusses inspired by the beaches of Ibiza this season, Awake’s Stardom Aqua Trans Powder in Golden Honey adds a bit of glitz to any beach face. Comprised of 77% water, this shimmery golden powder actually feels cool upon application and the finely milled dust gives skin a subtle glow.
