Trends in Summer Nails
By Florance Chung
Enthusiastically addressing an excited crowd of at least 400 at Nordstrom South Coast Plaza’s Summer Trend Show, celebrity manicurist and accomplished jazz singer, Deborah Lippmann shared the new products and colors of her collection, while offering advice on the perfect manicure.

Lippmann’s choice of color for summer is a neutral taupe called Fashion. By painting the nails in a neutral, flesh-colored tone, limbs appear elongated.
“My favorite is the seamless toe, the elongation of the skin,” Lippmann said. “It is what I did a lot of on the runway.”
At the Trend Show, one of the crowd favorites sold out by noon. The Material Girl essentials kit flew off the shelves. A definite convenience, it comes packed in a neat tri-fold zip roll with a full-sized Rich Girl and other products needed to give a complete dry manicure. An invaluable part of her life, Lippmann said that is how she transports all her tools to her photo shoots and runway shows.

Lippmann said that her favorite product is the Rich Girl hand cream which developed to moisturize and fade uneven pigmentation on the skin. To ensure that the hands stay looking young, the fresh-smelling hand cream has an SPF 25.
Lippmann is also excited by the next two additions to the Lippmann Collection. Coming out late summer, there is going to be a self-heating shaving cream for the legs, which aids in exfoliation for a deeper shave, and Stepping Out, a moisturizing, natural foot cream.
With the popularity of sandals, Lippmann stresses the importance of regularly moisturizing and exfoliating the feet. Stepping Out is complete with shea butter and cocoa butter to keep feet looking and feeling soft and smooth.

“For me, it’s so gratifying to meet the customers,” Lippmann said. “I have women who met me a year ago and started using the products. Their skin may have been dry and now they’re learning how to exfoliate. It’s great to hear that from a customer.”
