On Sunday, April 25 2010, the Beauty Bus Foundation hosted its first Beauty Drive fundraising event. The event— sponsored by OPI, Bosley, Joico and more—was a lovely and elegant affair, with many fashionable guests in attendance. Reporter Lisa Sigell of KCBS/KCAL News hosted the event, encouraging guests to bid on hot ticket items in the silent auction, such as lunch with actress Amber Valleta, and two tickets to the Indianapolis 500.

The Beauty Drive – which took place at The Mark for Events in West L.A.—raised a great deal of money for a worthwhile cause. The Beauty Bus Foundation is a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for home-bound, terminally or chronically ill patients and their primary caregivers. They provide in-home beauty and grooming treatments—free of charge— to empower and provide relief to people during a difficult time.

Services are focused on people with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, stroke and their primary caregivers. Beauty Bus, intending to expand nationally, reaches out to compromised and isolated individuals and brings beauty into their lives. The Beauty Bus Foundation is close to the heart of Sandra Bullock, who reached out to Beauty Bus Foundation last August after seeing a piece about it on the local news.

Partygoers enjoyed interactive gourmet brunch and cocktail stations, Greek salad appetizers and sipping PAMA cocktails. Beauty stations were positioned throughout the space and guests were treated to treatments from professional makeup artists, hairstylists and manicurists. Janine Jarman from Bravo’s Shear Genius hosted a hair show, showcasing the hottest new looks for spring. Alicia Marantz Liotta and Wendy Marantz Levine, Beauty Bus Foundation’s founders, spoke about their mission and goals for the foundation.

Lauren Conrad makes her Mark
Lauren Conrad made her debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox backstage with her new fall collection with bold Parisian statements by Mark. The inspiration for LC’s eponymous collection was the femme fatale, inspired by 40s icons from the streets of Paris. Using Mark’s newest beauty collection the look was sultry eyes, gold bronze colors, heavy black liner, full lashes and intense garnet lips.

“We wanted to create a classic, beautiful look to keep with the Parisian theme,” says Amy Nadie, lead makeup artist, mark cosmetics, “Lauren knew she wanted sultry eyes, slightly winged on the corner.”

The brooding, yet playful femme fatale was created with mark liquid liner in Cleo, followed by the new lip shade juice gems in berryliscious, topped with dew drenched gloss in juicy from the Mark collection. http://www.meetmark.com

Jared Gold teams up with Temptu
Off-site at LA’s historic Union Station, Temptu was backstage at the Jared Gold Spring Fashion Show Czarina. Temptu sponsored a 10 person team of airbrush makeup artists keyed by film and television makeup veteran Stacy Hummell.

“With Jared Gold’s direction, we created a look inspired by Los Angeles in bloom, the 17th Century White Russian court and Le Ballet Russe,” said key makeup artist Stacy Hummell. Male and female models were first airbrushed with Temptu S/B for a porcelain foundation base. Temptu S/B Hi-Def colors followed in yellow, purple, blue and pink, inspired by the first signs of spring in Los Angeles: the daffodil, jacaranda, and bougainvillea.

A colorful circus of internet darlings, reality stars and celebrities walked the runway at Jared Gold, including the notorious Traci Lords. http://www.temptu.com

Pussycat Dolls Show Stopping in Smashbox
LA Fashion Week wrapped with The Pussycat Dolls runway show and performance, which was the must-see event of the week with burlesque beauty looks re-invented by Smashbox cosmetics. P Diddy, Dr. Dre and Quincy Jones sat front row and admired the just-launched lingerie line by the Dolls creator/designer Robin Antin.

Robin Antin sent the girls strutting down the runway with lots of hair and smoldering makeup that was more brit pop than burlesque, more mods and rockers than retro pinup.

“We did a sultry, smoky cat eye using Smashbox Eye Shadow Trio in Twilight then added a soft pink highlight on the cheeks,” described Smashbox lead artist, Lori Taylor. “There were two different looks on the lips – a baby doll pink with Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout and a deep creamy red with Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Lavish.” A decidedly appropriate look for the Pussycat Dolls to set the stage for their closing rock star, show-stopping performance that gave new meaning to innerwear as outerwear. http://www.smashbox.com

What happens when you mix a legendary community with the world’s largest fragrance house? You get an event for the beauty books – Fashion Fragrance Premiere. On Saturday, October 13, 2007, Sniffapalooza, Ron Robinson of the Los Angeles beauty haven Apothia, and the fragrance house Givaudan, will be hosting an educational event on latest fragrance trends and the creation process, in honor of LA Fashion Week. Usually available to only exclusive industry insiders, this unique chance is one not to be missed.

The multi-sensory day begins with a continental breakfast at 8:30am at Mauro’s Café, at Fred Segal Melrose. A presentation follows, and then from 10:00am to noon guests have the unique opportunity to meet presenters and representatives of famous product lines available at Apothia – along with fashion press and industry professionals. Learn all about the process that goes into fashion trend researching and the production of fragrances. Sample five new handmade blends from a Givaudan perfumer, designed to match five upcoming trends. These fragrance previews will be available only at this special event.

Go ahead – take note now. And bonus: raffles, commemorative Fashion Fragrance Premiere t-shirt and Apothia gift bags. This amazing event is being offered to Sniffapalooza members first, but once members have a chance to register http://www.ronrobinsoninc.com/apothia/givaudan/, it will open up to everyone. So, rally your friends and prepare your olfactory senses for a special Saturday.

Kpr Inc., a fashion and lifestyle PR firm, has recently made their mark on LA’s bustling fashion block. On the corner of West 3rd Street and Crescent Heights, it’s hard to miss the striking deep coral door. It’s equally hard to resist stopping in and checking out the fabulous goods stocked in their first floor showroom. The harsh reality is that these doors are usually only open to fashion editors and celebrity stylists. But fear not, because for two days this month all are welcome to visit the first ever kpr client sample sale.
