As a little Maya, I had a flirtatious fascination with all things ghostly. I told the neighborhood kids that Casper the Friendly Ghost lived in my closet. I’d run around my house, in signature phantom sheet with cutout holes and pretend (or was I?) to speak to the beyond. I made up fantastical phantasmal stories for friends about the floating collectible bells on my grandparents’ mantle that rung themselves. It wasn’t until I turned 18 that I learned the neighborhood was built right smack on top of a cemetery; an easy scapegoat for my paranormal curiosity.
Now that I’m (allegedly) all grown up, I still believe in ghosts, but my taste in spectral attire has evolved onto a more sophisticated plane of existence. Thanks to Tayna Sarne, the witchy woman behind Ghost, a tres chic, ultra-flirty, female form-friendly clothing line, I can float right into the retail outlet in the heart of WeHo.

The concept behind Ghost is simple: fluid femininity. Ponder this: in a closet full of tight, constricting garments (such as the skintight jeans I’m sporting today, combined with the monthly bloat, an anathema to my usually sunny disposition), duds so flowy, so girly, so soft to the touch that you literally want to wrap your entire being in it to keep the sharp edges of the world at bay is a welcome respite, to be sure. It’s the clothing equivalent of a full body massage, a non-fattening slice of heavenly tiramisu, the perfect gentleman who knows exactly what compliment to pay and when to shut it. The majority of Ghost’s garments are woven from viscose yarns derived from specially farmed soft woods and go through a specialized dyeing process, enhancing the brand’s unique concept. This method cleverly renders their apparel machine washable, something this chica loves, since apparently I can’t seem to get it through my head that not all clothes are fit to be crammed into a Maytag (discovered at the cost of several ruined cashmere sweaters). Is there anything about Ghost that’s not to love? I think not!!

Set foot inside the store and you will feel me. Ghost’s signature fluid silhouette and delicate color palate simply scream spring, even when the weather resists. One look at the new collection and I was immediately inspired to initiate a skin preparing-bearing regiment of exfoliation and sunless tanning, all the better to show off those coquettish dresses and fun capris, my dear. I can just see myself, luminescent as a sprite, all a-twirl in my gorgeous pink halter dress, sun shining, birds singing, boys swooning… yah, that’s the booh. All I need now is a tiny push from Mother Nature to bestow that fabulous SoCal weather which makes all my east coast girls envious (ha!).
And if spending your days prancing around garden parties and pristine parks isn’t your thing (or doesn’t fit into your daily schedule as is my dilemma), fret not. Ghost’s signature lines and fabrics are so versatile that they radiate for any occasion, from work, to the beach, to the bed (wink-wink) and even to The Oscars. And in this day and age of frightfully tight tops, unholy fabrics and fashion mishaps more suited for Narnia than the red carpet at the Kodak, it’s easy to see why celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Liv Tyler and Catherine Zeta-Jones sing Ghost’s praises.

So while I’m no longer the little girl with the bed sheet over my head, I do still believe in Ghosts in my closet and these are decidedly friendly!
