Fashion Frenzy

By Missy Heckman

Each line embodies a vision, a culture and a message. LA Fashion Week’s unveiling of Fall 2007 collections were no exception. A few key pieces stood out as the season’s true trend, pencil skirts, plunging necklines, copper colors, Asian inspiration and of course it would not be LA if not for a few brands showing that raw rock edge.

Literature Noir resembled European avant-garde. With true fall colors black, latte and a splash of fuchsia and gold, the line was creative, elegant and inspirational. MAC made the look for the show ideal by giving the models “Bridget Bardot’s” subtle elegance. The smoky eyes were defined with lashes and a heavy liner from MAC’s Fall 2007 collection of sliver gray, dark black and gold flax. Première stylist, Sean James set the model’s look by using Good Hair Day Creations Spray and back combing to give it a frizzy texture and an old world appeal with a youthful twist.

Grail’s collection was inspired by a trip the design team took to Haiti. There surrounded by voodoo temples the designers were inspired by vast earth tones and unique flicks of color. Bed Head’s Big Black Eyeliner was used for the tribal dots that graced the catwalk along with Glow Mineral Illuminator to create a dewy finish. The models had seriously straight locks in the back and an exceptional crown of braided extensions in the front to give the hair an exotic look. TIGI used Hard Head Hairspray to hold the mod style in place.

Oscar Contenders Still Win With Swag

By Abbey Khan

What’s better than getting the Oscar? How about getting the swag. Here’s a run down of what nominees, presenters, and other celebrities took home.

Since diamonds are a girl’s best friend and her hair is her crown, CHI created the Million Dollar Diamond CHI™ Ceramic Flat Iron. Celebrities like Neve Campbell, Marla Sokoloff, and Stacey Keibler previewed the styling tool which was unveiled at Platinum Pubicity’s Luxury Suite. The 6,800, 3pt. flawless diamonds individually set on an 18 karat gold casing dazzled everyone in attendance. The “Million Dollar Diamond CHI™ Ceramic Flat Iron” will tour selected cities and events to bring awareness to victims of conflict diamonds, and then it will be sold with a portion of the proceeds going towards the victims of conflict diamonds. Guests also took home limited edition blow dryers, flat irons, and other styling products from CHI worth over $300.

Both the men and women couldn’t get enough of the Lotus 9 pieces. The guys loved the rocker leather cuffs and Kathy Hilton took home new skull earrings for herself and Paris. A-listers also took home the Dirt Devil Kone for easy cleaning, delectable new chocolate by Hershey’s called Cacao Reserve, and Samsonite Signat mini-luggage.

Scotch or Wine, Just Not at the Same Time

By Abbey Khan

Start the Oscar weekend off right at The Grille in Santa Monica. Beginning this Saturday, The Grille kicks off its monthly “Open The Bottle Night!” (OTBN!) dinner series. On this inaugural dinner night, celebrate by bringing in your very own special bottle of wine. You’ll have so much fun, no doubt you’ll come back for more and bring all your friends with you. Best of all, The Grille will have a wine already picked out for you. Enjoy Australian Shiraz in March, Pinot Noir in April, and Sauvignon Blanc in May. Of course what’s wine without a good meal, which is why their talented culinary team will create a prix fixe menu to compliment the wine, which will also be available during the week. Call (310) 576-3111 to make reservations.

But if scotch is your thing, then you’ll be happy to know that throughout the month of March, The Koi Pond will be the home to Glenmorangie. It will feature its 18-year old single Highland malt scotch whisky, aged to perfection in 1987 Chateau Margeaux barrels. The scotch will even be paired up with several different chocolates from the decadent Recchiuti Confections. Scotch lovers should call (310) 576-7777 ext. 3914 for reservations.

Get Gorgeous for Valentine’s Day

By Abbey Khan

Valentine’s Day is almost here. Whether you’re looking to spice things up with your guy or looking for the one, you need to look hot. So, we’ve compiled a first aid kit to getting gorgeous for Valentine’s Day.

Throw away your eyelash curler and toss that mascara, all you need is D’Lashes! These eyelash extensions are safe, waterproof, and last 6-8 weeks. Known as the First Lady of Eyelash Extensions, D’Lashes founder Dionne Phillips has worked her magic on some famous peepers, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Renee Zellweger, to name a few. It’s no coincidence that these leading ladies are always in the company of handsome men—it’s D’Lashes all the way.

lashpic2.jpg

In only 90 minutes, you’ll get long, soft, and full lashes that look like your own. If you want a little more drama, choose from Twinkle End Lashes, Thick Swoop, or Party Lash.

Log onto www.dlashes.com for more information or call 1.877.LASH911 to book your appointment today.

After lashing out with Phillips, walk next door to celebrity hairstylist, Billy Lowe, whose clients include funny girls Debra Messing and Ellen DeGeneres. Just in case you can’t make it to his private studio in time for Valentine’s Day, Lowe walks us through two looks that’ll surely capture his heart.

Show off your swanlike neck and put your best face forward with a classic ponytail. First, gather hair at the nape of the neck in a lower tie-back using a rubberband. Then use a strand of hair to wrap around and hide the rubberband, and you’re finished. Give this style a little edge with a side part. (This look only takes 3-5 minutes when styling already dried hair).

evalongorialowponytail.jpg

For a more dramatic look, use a large barrel curling iron to create soft face-framing curls. Keep in place with a light hold spray like Sudzz FX Aerofixx, and finish off with a little shaping wax like Osmo Shaper to tame flyaways.

debramessingloosetousledwaves.jpg

Have him begging to run his fingers through your loose tousled waves. Start off with a volumizing shampoo and conditioning system, and towel dry hair. Then brush a volumizing serum such as Paul Mitchell Thicken Up for even distribution. Next, finger dry hair with a blow dryer until it is about 80-90% dry. Then dry hair in sections with a ceramic barrel brush. Remember, the larger the barrel on the brush, the looser the curl. As you dry each section, wrap that section around your fingers to create a barrel curl and secure with a clip. When hair is completely dry and barrel curls are set, use a light hold or volumizing hairspray such as Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray to lock in curls. Let hair cool down for 10-15 minutes, then remove barrel curls and gently finger style. Use the finishing spray to lock in shape. (This look takes about 30-45 minutes).

Call 310.430.4045 to make an appointment with Lowe or visit www.billylowe.com for more information.
