Stir it up and sake to me

By Razi Schwartz

Happy hump day my little faithful Angelenos! Not only is Wednesday the best day of the week because you only have one more day until you can go out and party guilt free on Thursday – uh, I mean, two more days until the weekend, but it’s also the day when you get your delicious dose of moi – the moi, moi, moi you can’t get enough of! Why can’t you get enough of me? Uh, maybe because I always bring you awesomeness times five that you don’t know what you’d do without? Huh? Maybe just a little? Yeah, thought so.

Tada, and today is no exception. I bring you one thing to do while you’re bored at work, and another to wait for longingly until after work – not in a skanky “you shouldn’t tell your mom” way – in an “I’m so hungry and I’m totally boycotting Dolce out of moral principal” kind of way. Harumph.

Ladies who love their bling things, check out www.shopstir.com. I don’t know about you, but I always stir it up when I shop – stir what, exactly, I’m not so sure, but I’m sure that it’s stirring somewhere. The site has only been in existence since November 2005 – that means you’re going to be the first to jump on the bandwagon. The founders’ whole goal is – let’s get you noticed. Somehow, someway, they want you to be noticed…and let me tell you, their blingy goodness does the trick. Think bedazzling, but classy – not chinsy shi**y crappy bedazzling. I mean like the kind that sparked and set the trend standard in the first place.

There are earrings, lighters, money clips, and my personal fave – the wine corks. Who has or needs a bedazzled wine cork? Uh, me, that’s right. I MUST HAVE ONE. Why? Because…yep, you guessed it, I’m special like that. The earrings are rad, too – they’re made of fender picks so you can look totally “rock ‘n’ roll” even when you know you’re a complete and utter square. OK! I ADMIT IT! LIKE ME! I’M A SQUARE. But I’m trying to break free from it, so give a girl a break.

I also love how they are counting down to Christmas on the website – go on, dare them to miss a day, they won’t, because they’re sparklingly on top of things.

On to din din – now, I have mixed feelings about sharing this restaurant with y’all because it’s one of my favorites, and I would like to eat there again at some point in the near future. It’s in the middle of Brentwood Village – like, you know where that one little street merges in with Barrington, and there’s a corner and you think to yourself, “that’s such an odd location, I wonder what’s literally on that corner?” Uh, well, it’s my favey resto, Saketini. Apparently it’s owned by Sung Kang, who was one of the handsome fellers in Better Luck Tomorrow.

Why, you ask, is this then different than boycotting Dolce? I’m insulted you even have to ask.

The food is PHENOMENAL – think new asian eclectic with a kick in the ass. The eggplant dish on the appetizer menu will make you melt, as will the calamari and…oh, jeez, like everything else you’ll eat there. I’ve tried a good amount on the menu, and have yet to be disappointed. The beef is fantastic, the sushi rolls are delish, the sake is … whooo, whooo, good. Ok, I’m rambling in goodness, so I’ll stop, but you’ve got to trust me.

It’s a tiny space, so in my humblest of opinions, I’d make a reservation – I mean, that is, if you’d like to eat there and not just get bummed out when they can’t seat you until next Thurs. I mean, it’s not like that now – but I’m expecting the cat to be let out of the bag with this secret any minute now. The prices are totally reasonable, too – like, you will NOT break the bank. I think it might actually be less expensive than your average, run of the mill sushi joint positioned randomly in Westwood or Santa Monica.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, don’t worry about the parking. You can usually find something on the street, or park at the lot just across Barrington next to the Indian joint. It’s amazing – not only is the food out of this world, but they made possibly the most inaccessible location totally accessible and the thought of going there un-daunting – brilliant, Watson, brilliant.
