Peace, Love and Natural Fragrances

By Dina Fierro

Exquisite, chic, hip and luxurious…these are the words that Rich Hippie uses to describe their niche line of organic perfume.  Fifteen fragrances - Bliss, Maharishi, Devotion, Rock Star, Rich Hippie, Bohemian Wedding, Spring, The Kiss, Purple Haze, Utopia, Marrakech, Psychedelic, Wild Thing, Kalachakra, and Nirvana - formulated by the California-based perfume house utilize traditional methods employed by perfumers prior to the advent of the chemical industry, when all fine perfume was 100% natural and chemical free.

In the words of Rich Hippie Creator and Perfumer Nannette Pallrand: “There is nothing more beautiful than an all-natural perfume where you can actually smell the real flowers as opposed to a man-made chemical perfume that uses synthetic versions of flowers concocted in a laboratory. Studies have even shown that a real and all-natural perfume actually creates a chemical reaction in the body that uplifts the senses whereas a man-made, synthetic perfume brings the senses down.”

Rich Hippie’s fragrances use extracts from organically-farmed plants and flowers from all corners of the world including rose from Bulgaria and Turkey, vanilla from Madagascar, citrus from Brazil, and spices from Africa. Moreover, Rich Hippie uses organic alcohol made from organic grapes grown in the great wine regions of California.   The fragrances are made in small batches with great attention to quality and detail.

Wild Thing includes notes of Indian jasmine, Albanian orris root, and Egyptian rose. The fragrance is direct, never complicated, starting with bright jasmine and citrus topnotes and drying down to a warmer floral blend. Wild Thing is fuller-bodied than the notes would dictate but not cloying or heady.

Psychedelic, with notes of vanilla, ginger and orange peel, is a bold and happy fragrance. Top notes include a foody, warm vanilla with kicks of orange and ginger. The composition is sweet and perfect for the gourmand.

All of this attention to detail and ingredients doesn’t come cheap; 15 ml bottles of Rich Hippie fragrances are $255, while a 60 ml bottle is $625. Various sample sets are available; at a cost of $85-100.  For more information or to purchase Rich Hippie, visit www.rich-hippie.com.
