Hair Care
September 2007

By Alison Meehan

We all have special relationships with the artists who care for our hair. It’s up there with having a trusty mechanic in Los Angeles: We need a good one close at hand to rely on at all times. Personally, I’ve been very loyal to my wonderfully talented hairstylist for nearly a decade. However, she recently had a personal situation that needed more attention and care than my hair. Thus, I’ve since been forlornly looking around for her replacement.

A close friend of mine was consistently showing up with good hair-days. Chic cut, clean color. Like any woman about town, I took note. I sat back and watched for a little while to see if her new hair triumph would continue. Needless to say, it did.

One day, I gave in and clandestinely asked, “Who’s been doing your hair lately?”
As soon as the question fell off my lips, my friend gushed two boisterous words: “Rebecca Bacon!“ It was as if she couldn’t wait for someone to inquire so she could spread the word”¦

Knowing my situation, my dear friend was on the phone immediately and my appointment was booked.

Located in the beautiful and lofty space of the Piero Salon in Santa Monica, Bacon is an energetic-yet laid back-educated-approachable mix of a stylist.

Bacon quickly took inventory of my grown out bangs and chopped up layers. Did I mention I tried to trim my own hair during the interim of my new stylist-search? True story. Not a problem, she made my hair feel and look whole again.

While under the dryer, I spied a few of her outgoing color clients. Her care and attention to detail were evident, as all were leaving with hugs, kisses and admiration for her work.

The bonus: Bacon sent me home with a fabulous hair elixir she concocted herself to create the perfect California Beach Hair. It’s a mix of mineral salts and essential oils that blend to a divine beach-like aroma. With just a few spritzes, you have shamelessly sexy beach hair, with voluminous texture that actually holds.

My only advice: Don’t wait for someone to call for you.
