The hand-in-hand Blessing-Curse of hair coloring starts around the age of 13, or at least that’s when a certain someone who will remain anonymous decided to tamper with natural beauty. The egregious mistake came in a spray bottle labeled “Sun In.” For someone with naturally dark brown curly hair, it can be a constant struggle to get and maintain a natural sun-kissed color. Treatments in the form of highlights, lowlights, double process, caramel, butterscotch, etc, seem never ending. Until now. The search for the holy grail of hair color led to Rita Hazan, the mastermind behind the manes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, and Carmen Electra to name a few.
The Rita Hazan Salon in New York is the secret behind many of Manhattan’s best-tressed women and beyond that, all of Hazan’s loyal clients who travel across the country to maintain the perfect hair color. While Hazan’s genius is undoubtedly worth a cross-country trip, it is definitely a luxury that only certain clientele can afford. Thus, Hazan decided to resolve such a dilemma by making the journey for her clients. So, now on Sunday, once every five weeks, the Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills becomes the LA outpost for Rita Hazan and her select team of superior assistants.
Entering the pristine salon, one might be slightly intimidated by the haute surroundings, but the second you sit down all is comfortable thanks to the warm Hazan staff. It’s pretty evident from the way Hazan zips around the salon, working on several clients at once, that she knows exactly what will work for each client’s color, style and personality.
For the first time, instead of trying to achieve a variation of the light brown beachy tones, Hazan restored my darker brunette hair with highlights that were a slightly lighter shade of brown. Hazan opens her clients’ eyes to the obvious: You don’t have to leave the salon looking dramatically different in order to get your money’s worth. Hazan did to me what she does best—making subtle color enhancements to completely warm up the overall tone. No matter what hue you leave the salon with, it looks so natural that only you and Hazan will know it’s not God-given.
