I Heart my Flat Iron, A Love Story

One thing that I’ve learned: always listen to professional beauties’ beauty advice. Ever since my college roommate Audrey, a former beauty pageant contestant, told me about Voluminous mascara, I have been singing its praises ever since. My friend Amy, a former NFL cheerleader, told me that all of her cheerleader friends use the Chi and I just had to get one. What did Amy know about the arduous task of straightening hair? This milk fed, Midwestern beauty with long, silky, blonde hair confessed that her natural hair is curly and brown and that she is a highlighted and flat ironed blonde. I had no idea, since her hair was so silky and smooth that it looked like she had been born with it. Amy said the Chi is the best flat iron ever and I just had to try it.

I was skeptical at first, given that I had always found some great new straightener, like the Revostyler, but then I realized it didn’t give me the silky straight results I craved. I remember flat ironing and crimping my hair as a little 9-year-old aspiring beauty and it seriously friend my hair.

But I decided that my college beauty queen roommate Audrey was really right on about Voluminous, so I decided to give Chi a try. I could not believe how incredible the results were. It literally took my curly, frizzy, untamed, bird’s nest of a hairdo and turned it into long, sleek, silky perfection.

The reason the Chi doesn’t fry your hair is the ceramic plates. The ceramic makes your hair effortlessly glide through the flat iron without frying or tearing it. It also heats up really hot, so you don’t have to put the flat iron over your hair too long. I am very into bargain hunting; however, with flat irons, it is a good idea to splurge because drugstore irons have metal plates or ceramic coated plates and fry your hair, leaving it dull, weak and damaged.

For extra protection, you can use Chi’s line of styling products that bodify, protect your hair from heat, and make your hair silky. A drop of BioSilk Silk Therapy is a great way to finish your look, as it makes your hair shiny and frizz free. BioSilk won Allure Magazine’s Best of Beauty Award for the best defrizzing product. All of the celebs use it because the silk molecules repair, nourish, strengthen, de-frizz and polish hair without weighing it down or looking greasy.

If you have a lot of hair, you can use the Chi Turbo 2” as its ergonomic design glides effortlessly over big sections of hair at a time. For short to medium hair, there is the traditional one inch Chi, the gold standard in flat irons. Another flat iron that I really love is the iTech Ionic Tourmaline Iron. It is an ionic and ceramic iron with crushed Tourmaline crystals, the most ionic mineral out there. I love how the iTech heats up and cools down at lightening speed. The ceramic Tourmaline heating plates help to seal the cuticle, reduce frizz, and lock in moisture. It also has a cool digital display. I heart my flat iron because it made my dream of straight, shiny, silky hair come true.
