John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze
By Justine O'Neill
Over the years John Frieda has been the go to guy for products that tame frizzy hair, keep the blondes bright, and my very own brunette tresses brilliant. Naturally I was very excited to try the latest Frieda product to hit the market. Luminous Color Glaze promises the end of dull hair and the shine of your life. Available in three Frieda signature color families, Sheer Blonde, Brilliant Brunette and Radiant Red, this is the first at home glazing product on the shelves.

Salon glazes are translucent color glosses that richen color while putting a protective shine on hair for up to five weeks. While the Frieda glaze isn’t a one time treatment, it is meant to offer the same color boost and protective shine as a salon glaze. It’s a simple wash in treatment left in for three minutes after shampooing and conditioning. For ideal results the wash should be used three times a week and results should intensify over time.
I used it for three days in a row and noticed that while my hair certainly felt softer and smelled great it didn’t quite have the shine or color boost I’d expected. Those with very fine or oily hair may want to use this product sparingly or skip the conditioner before as it also seemed to weigh my hair down a bit. My hair is dark brown, fine, and colored (at home) due to premature graying and therefore a little finicky.
This product seems best suited for those with coarse and/or dry hair. Luminous Color Glaze may also show better results for those with contrasting highlights, both natural and salon made. Considering a professional glaze will run upward of five times what you’ll pay for the Luminous Color Glaze it’s certainly worth a try.
