Jonathan Product: ‘Simple Hair and How to Get There’

By Laura Miller

With his success as a hairstylist, two packed salons and countless fashion shows, photo shoots and celebrity clients under his belt, a blockbuster reality show that spanned three seasons, a beautiful wife and deliciously adorable son ~ what’s left for Jonathan Antin to do? Well, a product line does come to mind, and guess what? He’s mastered that too.

If you tuned into his hit reality show “Blow Out”, you’ll remember how he agonized over his product formulas and packaging, to the point of tears, arguments and wall punching. In the end, fortunately, he loved the finished product, or products, as the case may be.
Jonathan believes that gentle, natural ingredients bring out the best in hair. He created his line with essential waters that are deionized, purified, and infused with botanicals, as he was concerned that the water coming out of showers was not the best quality. (He has since addressed that problem with his Beauty Water Purification System.) The products are also sulfate free and vegan, with the exception of Dirt. A sugar-derived surfactant cleanses hair in place of harsh chemicals that can strip color and promote frizz and dryness.

Top sellers for Jonathan include Dirt, a water based texturizing paste created to give you hair that looks the way it does the day after a haircut, Redo, a mist that freshens up your hair allowing you to restyle it with ease, and Create Volume, a light weight mousse that gives hair volume and immense shine.

What’s next for the master of haircare? His products have been yet another feather in his cap and he continues to release new products to the market. The latest additions to the Jonathan Product line include Weightless Smooth in Shampoo, Condition and Create. These products for frizzy, brittle and unruly hair contain intense smoothing ingredients such as macadamia nut oil, mango and shea butters, and soy and rice protein. Silky Dirt, a sibling to the ever popular Dirt, is a grooming crème for longer hair. It adds shine and definition and can be used on damp or dry hair.

“Sixty percent of my ability to make hair look good comes from my product knowledge,” Antin has said. With the right products and the right haircut, you are primed and ready for beautiful, easy to manage hair, the Jonathan Antin way. Simple hair and how to get there - it’s Jonathans mantra. He’s dedicated his professional life to hair and how to help it looks its best. As his empire expands, expect to see an evolution of his vision for beauty. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
