FROM DVD WORKOUT VIDEOS TO COUTURE, JANIS SAFFELL OFFERS AMPLE MOTIVATION FOR THE FITNESS FREAK
By C S
Fitness enthusiast and veteran Janis Saffell has over 20 years experience and has been introducing videos and workout ideas to entertain enthusiasts from all over the world. She is a classically trained ballet dancer, gymnast and kick-boxing expert who has launched workout videos on stretching to pilates.
Her new videos are Beverly Hills Pilates and Beverly Hills Yoga. She recommends that beginners will need to embrace cross-training if they want to lose weight, and advocates that they do cardiovascular exercises (such as the Quickfix Total Cardio Kick) and weave in elements of weight training during the week. “The Quickfix is broken up into four ten minute workouts; one focuses on lower body, one is just a mix of all three of them,” Saffell says.
Regarding her Beverly Hills Yoga video she says, “This is a fitness yoga program and does not have any elements of meditation—it’s more of a strength through grace. This video focuses on breathing and fitness.”
The traditional pilates video incorporates a program done with resistance and bands. The Beverly Hills pilates workout uses the body’s own weight as resistance. Saffell has introduced a Brand New Butt pilates workout video which was featured in the gift baskets given to all the presenters and performers at the MTV 2005 Movie awards.

“This video uses a workout with a dumbbell with pilates and incorporates a floor to strength and flexibility program. The DVD is 60 minutes long,” says Saffell. “It strictly focuses on the butt through sculpting.”
She advocates women to definitely do weight training, to prevent osteoporosis during the later years and to allow their lean muscle mass to burn fat more efficiently. Ideally, this should be done two to three times per week.
Saffell has also done active wear and couture, which is about five years old. Her line has graced fitness videos include those by Denise Austin & Kathy Smith. Saffell’s clothing can be found online and in a bunch of stores including Target and Ross.

Saffell’s advice to beginners is this: “I think the biggest thing is making the commitment to themselves because no one else is going to do it for them. It’s like brushing your teeth. If someone is in a time crunch, then do 30 minutes a day of walking, pushups or ab work—just some type of cardio to increase flexibility in your muscles.” For more information and to purchase workout videos and clothing, visit www.janissaffell.com
