In Los Angeles, seeing a chiropractor is about as common as, well seeing a shrink – Some even claim they’re one in the same. In the same vein as nail salons, we can throw a rock and hit a chiropractic office in LA. And just like manicurists, it can take awhile until you find one worth returning to a second time.

We heard raves about Dr. Bryen Bell and his modest Beverly Hills practice called BAC to Health, so we were excited to pay him a visit when our stiff writer’s backs and necks demanded attention. After a short lecture about neglect, some therapy via unintimidating machinery and hands-on treatments, we were up and walking arrow-straight.

Feeling generally rejuvenated, we sat down with the doctor and all-around good guy to ask him a few questions…

What makes BAC to Health different than other chiropractic practices?

We are primarily a wellness office that specializes in corrective care, chiropractic and spinal alignment. Our purpose for our community and every patient we see is to provide the necessary tools for families to get well and stay well. The problem we are seeing is that people aren’t taking proper care of themselves, not because they don’t know they should, but because they don’t know how. Most people wait ‘till they’re sick, disabled, in pain or not functioning well to seek help. In almost every one of those cases, it always takes longer to stabilize or correct a condition and it always costs them more money. Our current “healthcare” system mainly delivers sick care and crisis care, which is very expensive. Better health through better living means you must have a plan. We believe in prevention and maintenance care through Diet, Rest, Exercise, Alignment and Mental clarity (D.R.E.A.M.).

Where is the K in BAC?

I practice with my wife who is the co-owner of BAC to Health Wellness. BAC is simply an acronym for Bell and Corter – my last name and my wife’s last name.

What inspired you to become a chiropractor?

As a youth, I injured myself in a collegiate rugby tournament. Aside from the pain and numbness, my general health was going downhill. After the accident, I was getting sick more often and even started developing asthma symptoms. After seeing medical doctors, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons and neurologists, I realized that my condition didn’t require temporary symptom relief such as pills, inhalers, drugs, injections or surgery, but rather, a logical series of corrective chiropractic alignments to remove nerve interference and a simple maintenance plan to follow.

What types of patients make up your clientele?

We see people of all types, ages and ethnicities and specialize in helping them make better health choices for their long term benefit. We actually take care of two types of people. The first type wants to stay healthy and enjoy functioning as close to 100% as possible. These types of people are prevention oriented and see their health as an investment rather than an expense. The second type is the person is more crisis oriented and has waited for the health problem to effect their daily life. This person is typically suffering from pain or disability and is ready to get “BAC to health.”

Any words for all the skeptics?

In my opinion, one of the biggest reasons why people are skeptical and don’t know about Chiropractic is because natural healthcare is not advertized. Crisis care, sick care and pill health care is what we see on the television, in the newspapers and in our magazines. Better health through better living is the message that should be advertized, not better health through better chemistry.

For the skeptics who think it’s unsafe, they should know that in the insurance industry, risk is accessed through stats and percentages. The more claims that are reported the higher the risk for the procedure and as a result, the higher the insurance premium. Compared to the other primary care providers, Chiropractic Wellness Doctors enjoy the lowest insurance premiums, all of which is due to our proven track record of safety and low-risk procedures.
