Health & Fitness

  • Barrie and David Leibowitz are newlyweds who live in New York City. Both are athletic; he’s a 6th time marathoner and she works out with weights and runs three times a week. Their jobs are demanding; finance executives who clock in 50+ hours a week. BN asked Personal Trainer, Licensed US Cycling Coach and Fitness Instructor, Avery Washington, how this loving, but time pressed couple could spend some quality time…in the gym.

According to Washington, quality, not quantity is important. “Today, couples spend most of their time apart due to the high demands of careers and other responsibilities”, he says, “Instead of heading to the gym alone, make it a date and plan a workout time that will accommodate both of your schedules. You’ll reach your fitness goals and get to spend a little more time together.”

Motivation and Support: What better way to stay motivated than to get encouragement from your partner? It’ll help both of you remain consistent, and besides, there’s no better motivation than receiving praise from your significant other.

Feel More Connected To Each Other: The chemicals produced in the brain by exercise help to increase feelings of happiness, reduce stress and also increase arousal and libido.

A Well Balanced Workout: Typically women tend to favor cardiovascular activities while men favor strength training. Working out with one another will help balance your workout program.

Sign up for a class or activity together: Try something new that interests you both: boxing, martial arts, an indoor climbing clinic, yoga, 5K training, adult swim lessons, etc.
