Metro Mama & Metro Baby
April 2007

Most modern mommies don’t sweat the small stuff. However, we get very serious about one thing: our holiday photo opps. Preserving those memories is not optional, and we take our job as the keeper of the camera very seriously.

So, what to do at Easter time? Ah, the little ones are perfectly scrubbed in their fresh Easter duds, pastel and pretty for spring. The perfect opportunity for capturing some innocent photos for posterity. Right?

Theoretically. But with Easter comes Easter eggs and their coloring in all its permanent Paas glory. And Easter egg hunts, which, let’s be honest, are really only fun if you can get dirty. How then is a mother to catch those pristine pics without worrying about smudges?

Well, it’s easy. And keep in mind, this doesn’t just apply to Easter, but to all holidays. Do a dress rehearsal, get the tots in their new togs, and tell them to sit still for a few minutes so you can get your memory book shots. Yup, that’s it. Believe me, it took me a few attempts at capturing perfect pictures on the actual day, when the kids were completely distracted (and non-photogenically!) by the fun activities, to figure this out.

Then put them in grubbies for the Easter egg coloring and let them splash that vinegar concoction to their hearts’ content. Come Easter Sunday, just expect that their Sunday best will get beat up and let them go to town on their egg hunt.

Then you can sit back with a mimosa and your own spotless Easter bonnet””you’ve captured your perfect pictures and the sweet ensembles you bought special for spring will be outgrown before the next holiday, anyway.

Where to find the perfect Easter outfit? Try Wooden Soldier, which carries sublime outfits for boys and girls.
