Gucci Westman, Lancôme’s International artistic director and world renowned makeup artist, shared her inspirations for the looks she created for white hot designers Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, Peter Som, Hollywould, and Rag & Bone at New York Fashion Week. Gucci worked with each of these emerging talents and fashion lines to create new runway beauty looks that will become a reality this autumn.
All About Lips:
The gorgeous velvet dresses from Behnaz Sarafpour inspired Gucci to channel a modern day Snow White complete with fair complexion and red hot lips. For Behnaz, it was crucial to have matte skin and real color on the lips. Gucci and Behnaz teamed up to create a wearable red lipstick that could translate from the runway to the streets. The result: a creamy red with a bit of powder for a matte effect, while a mélange of grey, blue, and green pastels adorned eyelids to lend a mysterious yet sweet tone to the look. Keep this on your beauty radar and look out for the exclusive Lancôme Color Design Lip in Behnaz designed by Gucci and Behnaz to debut this fall.
Eyes On the Prize:
With a focus on eyes and brows at Proenza Schouler, Gucci used black, shimmery shadow on lids mixed with balm to create a slightly greasy effect, while black liquid liner that mingled with the lashes. Steering clear of any severe lines, Gucci echoed those oh-so famous photographs taken by Peter Lindbergh of Linda Evangelista by using a dark burgundy lip color applied with the finger for a soft kiss of seductive color.
Lip Service:
Fashion prodigy Thakoon’s fall collection was inspired by the work of artist Tim Hawkinson. In turn, Gucci used iridescence everywhere on the palette: bridge of the nose, chin, eyes, and cheekbones. To make the look pop, she did a wine-stained lip, concentrating most of the color in the middle of the top and bottom lips for a soft, loose effect.
Cheek to Cheek:
Using the movie “My Fair Lady” and the rose as inspiration for his line, Peter Som concentrated on grey throughout his collection, broken up by updated red, pink rose patterns, and other sweet hues. Gucci created a young and fresh look with rosy cheeks, a pale rosy mouth, and creamy burgundy shadow that softened the eyelids.
Bette Davis Eyes:
Tapping into the idea of an old-school glamour girl, Holly Dunlap of Hollywould used socialites as models on her runway. To pair with this idea, Gucci went for the ultimate femme fatale effect that could work on the masses with nude lips, black liquid liner, and Lancôme’s very own new Fatale mascara on the lashes.
Eye Oh Eye:
Keeping with the hip, down to earth feeling of the Rag & Bone collection, Gucci opted for a minimalist approach, creating a fresh complexion with a focus on the eye area. A coppery-plum shadow on the lids, lots of black mascara, light color on the cheeks, topped off with a subtle pink on the lips completed the modern feel to the makeup.
