Community Supported Agriculture, or coops, are a way for consumers to create a relationship with a farm, receiving regular baskets of fresh, locally grown and in-season produce in exchange for a financial commitment or a work exchange. All co-ops are democratic by nature, non-profit and run by volunteers.

Community Supported Agriculture has experienced an enormous growth spurt in recent years. In 1990, the number of CSAs in the United States was estimated at 50. In 2005, the estimate grew to over 1,000.
