A Cut Above

By David Bennett

Located on the very posh, very high end South Beverly Drive, The Shave of Beverly Hills is bringing back the proper way a gentleman should maintain himself from the neckline up. Walk in off the street and you’ll think you’ve just entered a traditional London gentlemen’s barbershop. Sure they have all the services you would expect at a barbershop: haircut, manicure, backrub, beard trim, etc., but the true uniqueness of the Shoppe lies within what you wouldn’t expect at a traditional barbershop. Services like a 45 minute shave, a Beverly Hills Facial, Uni-Brow Surgery, and Sweater Removal (use your imagination) are all set against a backdrop of complimentary cocktails, flat screen tv’s tuned to Cary Grant movies and ESPN, luxurious leather chairs and Frank Sinatra playing through the pipes, all topped off with attractive, highly skilled aestheticians and barbers.

When you enter the Shoppe, you are greeted by a concierge who will check you in and address any special requests you might have. Once you’re squared away, you’ll be escorted to the lounge where you’ll sit back, relax on the large leather chairs, and wait for your cocktail to arrive. Once you have a chance to breathe a sigh of relief, and once the Johnny Walker Blue Label has had a chance set in, you’ll be brought over to the barber chair. If you’re getting a shave, the barber will study your hair growth patterns carefully before choosing the customized skin care products he’ll use to prep your face for shaving.

The Shave practices the old art form of the wet shave. In order to get the closest, most comfortable shave, they apply a multi-tiered process of constantly wetting, moisturizing and steaming your face with a sophisticated blend of hot towels and the finest skin care products. Once prepped, the shave begins. By now, you’re face has been so carefully prepped that you probably won’t feel the razor gliding over your whiskers. When your face has been completely shaven, you’re wrapped up in hot towels, moisturized yet again, and shaved for a second round as the barber leaves no stone unturned. The process takes approx 30-45 min, depending on your schedule and the complexity of your scruff.

Once you experience The Shave you’ll want to come back again and again. For those who want to become a part of the culture, The Shave offers membership status and Special Events.
