One truly obnoxious tagline later: “Your narcissism is infectious”, and I was reeled in, hook, line and sinker. With a crowded graphic tee market and an ever-growing contemporary men’s market, Los Angeles’ own True Love & False Idols manages to feel original and make a statement simultaneously.

True Love & False Idols was founded by Alexander Erdmann (a.k.a. Alexander 2tone) and Alexander Vaz, two former members of rival straight-edge cliques in Southern California. The duo met again four years late; ironically each was slaving away at Howe Denim. They recognized one another and with a shared aesthetic, were rivals no more. Their collaboration (even the label’s name is a compromise) incorporates Hollywood imagery (think Eric Bana as Chopper), 2tone’s original tattoo illustrations and vibrant color and attention to detail. Simply put, True Love & False Idols is perfect for men with attitude and an avid interest in street style with a twist.

True Love & False Idols is available at Fred Segal and H. Lorenzo’s.
