Put to the Test: Cosmedicine Takes a Scientific Approach to Skincare
By Allison O'Rourke
I hate taking tests just as much as the next person, but when it comes to effective skincare products, it’s worth the effort to make the grade.
With everyone turning to derm skincare lines for powerful over-the-counter results once found only in the doctor’s office, one new skincare brand, Cosmedicine, is the first to offer hard evidence to back up its claims.
An independent research facility consulted with Johns Hopkins University to conduct rigorous performance tests on the Cosmedicine products. The state-of-the-art tests measured factors such as evenness of skin tone, skin elasticity and skin hydration.
This all struck me as both very scientific and extremely serious. When I think of skincare and beauty, I sometimes forget that there is, underneath all the pretty packaging and marketing, a science to it. This is especially true in the realm of skincare, where we now expect to see the same results from applying a Dr. Whomever cream that we would get, say, five years ago, from a surgical procedure.
I’m continuously looking for something that will not only simplify my beauty routine but also produce amazing results. My pick was the Healthy Cleanser with a built-in Witch Hazel toner. Not only did I adore the light foam that quickly worked into my skin, removing every trace of makeup and dirt, but I couldn’t help getting nostalgic for the Witch Hazel toner. What a wonderfully simple and fresh idea. It brought me back to childhood summers in the Berkshire Mountains of Connecticut and the cool, soothing essence that was used for every skin ailment in the book. After drying my face, my skin felt more refined and noticeably smoother.
Also noteworthy is the Honest Face Skin Tint & Treatment. Lightweight with great coverage, it is perfect for warm summer days when most makeup tends to congeal. Honest Face stays put and has three broad-spectrum sunscreens plus a suite of powerful antioxidants.
The science of beauty has rendered a powerful yet gentle line of products, all of which work well on different skin types. The line includes everything from a facial cleanser, a nighttime skin fortifying serum, moisturizer, oil control lotion, and skin tint and treatment to a body lotion and two eye creams. All in all, Cosmedicine finds a refreshing balance between science and beauty. The results are in the mirror.
