Skincare from the Land of Milk and Honey
By Laura Miller
Sonya Dakar’s interest in skin care began when she was a teenager and has continued with the Sonya Dakar Clinic in Beverly Hills and her extensive line of skin care products.

As a teen, Sonya attended school and in her spare time mixed up lotions and potions from the wealth of natural ingredients available in her homeland of Israel. This led to getting her estheticians license, a natural progression in her love of skin and her interest in learning how to best care for it. After wedding her high school sweetheart, Israel, an expert in aromatherapy, the two decided to shake up the skin care market with their flora and fauna inspired products and services.
The couple, with their children, moved to the United States in 1978, buying a home in Los Angeles and using the attached guesthouse as spa proving ground. Late into the night, Sonya perfected recipes for skin care products, many formulated particularly for problem skin. In 1984 Sonya and Israel opened the Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic. Sonya’s magic touch with problem skin attracted clients from all walks of life, including celebrities that often sang her praises.
The Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic is now located in beautiful Beverly Hills. It has recently undergone a fabulous renovation and boasts five stories of state of the art luxury. The top three services at the clinic are the Fitness Facial, the Diamond Peel, and the UltraLuxe Facial, featuring Sonya’s new line of UltraLuxe products. Sonya is known for her facials and is often quoted in magazines as the facilitator of stars such as Drew Barrymore, Debra Messing and Gwyneth Paltrow’s glowing skin.

Best selling products for Sonya are her Drying Potion, a product she developed in the 1970’s that is still a superior formula today, the Bergamot IRRIATATION wash (I tend to have a slight bit of redness and this has done wonders for my own skin), and the Omega 3 Repair Complex, also for skin prone to irritation. All of these products have the comfort of aromatherapy built in; they truly smell wonderful and feel soothing and calming on the skin. Her newest line, UltraLuxe, is the new standard in age control, offering face wash, a mask and treatment products.

Sonya has long likened good skin care results to that of an exercise program. “My no-nonsense Beauty Boot CampTM approach to skin care, my “beauty boot camp” philosophy, has been most effective, in creating healthy skin. I like to compare my result-oriented products and services to working out; you can only achieve results with hard work and dedication,” she has said. With a lifetime of study and literal ‘hands-on’ experience, Sonya is fully capable of whipping anyone’s skin into tiptop shape.
