They say you are who you associate with. So, if you vacation where the Versace’s grew up, will it make you more talented””by association? Hard to say.

Just imagine little Donatella and Gianni playing along the 124 miles of Mediterranean coastline that was their childhood home. We’re are not all so lucky, I know, but their childhood home, Italy’s Reggio Calabria, offers a heaping plate of enticing tourist options beyond the stunning shore. The location is home to the Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, which displays a range of historic items including BC-era terracotta tablets called a “pinax” that were typical to the area. Taste local delicacies””Reggio Calabria cuisine is famous for its use of bergamot, which has been used in varieties of regional pastries and liqueurs. Perhaps this was where the Versace’s dreamed up their fragrance recipes, like Versace Woman perfume’s blend of bergamot, jasmine and frangipani blossoms.

Stay just out of town at the five star Porto Pirghos Hotel, which boasts one of the best coastal views, a swimming pool on the beach and a garden jacuzzi. Check out www.portopirgos.com.
