Prague remains one of the favorite destinations for backpackers. With its cobblestone roads and Baroque-style churches, the first thought that might come to mind is “this city is absolutely beautiful.” Aside from its beauty, Prague is also known for its cheap beer and a lively nightlife that can guarantee you will have a good time.
But there is more to Prague than drinking and partying. Of course make sure you pick up gifts for all your friends back home. So where do you go? Since the social life in Prague is in the city center, it’s a good place to shop. There are a lot of small and often quaint shops on every street, especially in Old Town. You will have the chance to buy souvenirs such as hand cut glasses, bohemian garnets or jewels. Just don’t try to haggle because the shopkeepers have set prices.

Had enough of shopping? Try a little bit of sightseeing. If you have limited time in Prague and have only time to see one thing, make sure you go to Prague Castle. After all, it’s the most popular visited sight. It’s history goes back to the 9th century and has always been the seat of the Czech rulers. Today, it’s the seat of President Vaclav Havel. You may also want to check out St. Vitus Cathedral (Gothic landmark), beautiful gardens Na valech and Rajska zahrada and Golden Lane. The castle is open daily from 5 am to 11 pm.

After running around all day, you might be a bit hungry and tired. The best thing to do is to find a nice bar or restaurant to relax in. Old Town Square has plenty, but they are a little pricey since it’s the tourist hub. But it’s a good place to people watch and many clubs are near by if you want to go dancing later on in the night. Make sure you order some goulash or drink the local beer like Budvar or Pilsner Urquel. Your in Prague now, so do as the locals do, drink and have a good time.
